PAUM President's Message

Dear UM Alumni,

Happy New Year to all members of PAUM & alumni of UM. May the year 2022 be a good one for all of us after nearly two years battling the COVID pandemic and its consequential movement restrictions.

At the Annual General Meeting held on 11 December 2021, I was elected as the President of PAUM. It is indeed an honour for me to be given the mandate by PAUM members to lead PAUM, having only joined PAUM in 2018.

Firstly, I would like to thank the first President of PAUM, Datuk Seri Dr. Noordin Abd. Razak for his dedicated 29-year service to PAUM since inception in 1993 to 2021 by making PAUM the first alumni society to run its own clubhouse.

I hope I will be able to fulfil my duties as the new President and take the society to greater heights to be the alumni society that our alma mater, University of Malaya (UM) can depend on in line with the following objectives of PAUM:-

  1. To promote the interest and development of the University of Malaya
  2. To promote fellowship goodwill and harmony amongst the members of the ALUMNI in particular, and graduates of the University in general.
  3. To provide opportunities for members of the ALUMNI to meet, fraternize with graduates of other universities, colleges, polytechnics, and other professionals to pursue common interests.
  4. To provide facilities for academic, intellectual, social, cultural, sports, and recreational activities for members and their families.
  5. To promote national unity and matters of public and social interests.

I hope to work together with the newly elected Executive Committee (Exco) for the 2021/2023 term of office to help make PAUM Clubhouse the hub and centre for all UM alumni activities with several series of events planned for the year. To kick-start the programmes for the year will be the Lion Dance performance by the children of Ti-Ratana Welfare Society on Sunday, 6 February 2022 @ the lobby of PAUM Clubhouse. The revival of programmes for the year include the following, which had been postponed due to the MCO restrictions:-

  • Lunch in honour of YABhg. Tun Arshad Ayub
  • Golf Quarterly Medal series
  • Asean Universities Alumni (AUA) Golf tournament with PAUM as host.
  • The annual PAUM – NUSS Games with PAUM as host.

Other programmes in the pipeline for the year are the following:-

  • Series of Art Exhibition for budding artists
  • PAUM Lecture series
  • Iftar Bersama Perdana Menteri dan Penaung
  • Members’ Introduction Lunch
  • Membership Drive events with other UM alumni associations
  • Carnival @ PAUM Clubhouse.

Here’s Wishing all our Chinese members, Gong Xi Fa Cai and may the year of Tiger roar for all of us.
